ABOUT BELAIR BUILDING SUPPLY

It's no surprise that Phillip Tully, Jr. enjoys going to work every day.

After all, he has been helping customers at Belair Building Supply since he was eight years old where his father would pick him up and put him on the counter.

Phillip's parents, Margaret and Phillip Tully, Sr., founded the company in 1973, after retiring from the military. his father started the business by building dog houses that he supplied to southeastern feed and seed stores.

"My dad also went out to job sites in an old pickup truck and got lumber that needed to be salvaged. He would bring it back to the shop, clean it up and sell it at discounted prices," says Phillip. "My mom did anything she could to help my dad, from running errands to helping him build the dog houses." Although the store sells all types of building supplies, it sells primarily treated and framing lumber. Customers include the general public and local builders.

"My parents wanted to have something that they could do themselves and that they could pass on to me," Phillip says. "I knew from the beginning that I wanted to work in the business too."

The company has grown and succeeded in the Augusta building-material market, increasing its customer base each year.

“I deal with people who knew my parents every day and I can't thank them enough for keeping the business going," Phillip says. "We've gone from selling small seconds and salvage products to becoming a modern supply yard.”

Phillip, Sr., passed away in 1994 and Margaret passed away in 2002. However, their memory lives on in the business they founded.

"I enjoy carrying on their legacy. This was their dream. I am thankful every day for this opportunity," Phillip says.
